EvergreenHealth Monroe (formerly Valley General Hospital) serves our community with a primary purpose: working together to enrich the health and well-being of every life we touch. We work hard on our mission to advance the health of our community through our dedication to high quality, safe, compassionate, and cost-effective healthcare. As the valley’s population booms, we must grow and adapt to meet our community’s healthcare needs – the ability to fulfill our purpose and advance our mission depends on it.
To enrich our community’s health and well-being, our public hospital launched an initiative: “A Healthier Community is Born Here”. This program seeks to ensure EvergreenHealth Monroe serves our community as comprehensively as possible by offering our compassionate, quality care at all stages of life. That means empowering our talented doctors and nurses with state-of-the-art technology capable of assisting them in providing the best care available.
As part of this initiative, our public hospital is seeking community support for a ballot measure in April. This levy lift (Prop 1) would provide our hospital with an annual increase of $4 million in funding beginning in 2020. If approved, Prop 1 would address our community’s healthcare needs through three major improvements.
First, EvergreenHealth seeks to reinstate a maternity unit for low-risk pregnancy patients. With a budget of $3 million, and expected completion by 2021, this maternity unit will offer our community high-quality maternity care with updated equipment to monitor mothers and babies, renovated patient rooms and nurse’s stations, and additional healthcare staff. The obstetrics unit would welcome new babies in our community, ensuring high-quality care for the next generation.
Second, EvergreenHealth Monroe would use community-approved funding to upgrade our emergency service with state-of-the-art equipment and establish 24/7 trauma services. This would allow us to start the process for improving our state-approved trauma accreditation (up to a Level 3 Trauma Center from the current Level 4). EvergreenHealth is the only emergency center serving the Skykomish Valley, and upgrading our technology would allow our skilled doctors and nurses to provide superior life-saving care to our community.
Third, EvergreenHealth Monroe seeks to transition to a cutting-edge electronic medical record (EMR) system and establish an accessible patient online portal by the end of 2020. With $6 million dollars up-front, and then $1 million annually, the project would streamline provider-to-provider communication and allow patients to access their medical records via computer from anywhere. Optimizing communication between healthcare providers enhances patient safety by ensuring accuracy and providing easy accessibility of medical records. Additionally, a patient portal enables patients to manage chronic illnesses – easing anxieties and empowering individuals to be proactive about their healthcare.
Providing high-quality care at the best value to our community means growing and adapting – providing new services, acquiring state-of-the-art equipment, and adopting technological healthcare improvements. Work with us to enrich the health and well-being of every life we touch. Vote to Approve Prop 1 for our public hospital.
